Drink Chai and Other Teas! “Chai” is a Hindi word meaning “tea,” so you never need to ask for a “chai tea.” Whatever you call it, this spicy tea drink will deliver a pleasing taste and a host of anti-aging health benefits!

The chai that’s served up in coffee shops is usually a strong brew of black tea blended with a mixture of spices, milk, and sugar. The black tea leaves (like Assam or Darjeeling) contain a wallop of antioxidants, called flavonoids, that help protect the body against Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and heart disease. In fact, researchers from the Institute for Cancer Prevention in Valhalla, New York, have shown that tea—whether black, green, white, or oolong—has about eight to ten times more flavonoids than fruits and vegetables.

The various spices in chai have been used in traditional Asian medicine for centuries. Both Ayurveda and Chinese Traditional Medicine place a high value on spices in the treatment of a range of conditions. Ginger helps to ease sore throats, along with cold and flu symptoms, and it can also calm an upset stomach. Cloves have traditionally been used as an invigorating spice, and they may promote circulation as well. Cinnamon is a common stimulant, while cardamom eases indigestion and helps to calm the consumer. Pepper also promotes healthy digestion. For people who experience indigestion after Indian food, a cup of chai might be a great help.
The fact is that every ingredient in the chai tea recipe is good for you, and when you put them all together they pack a powerful punch for your immune system.
