Happy New Year!

Welcome to the New Year, a new decade, and a promising future! All of us at Balance Pilates & Yoga Centers wish you and your families a happy and healthy New Year! Everyone knows a new year tends to mean promised resolutions that go rougue by the summer. However, THIS year we intend to remind ourselves every day of the blessings of life, health, friends and family, and the opportunity to change things.

Change is the Opportunity to Make Things Better.

There are so many philisophical phrases we could post on this web page..."Be the change you want to see in the world."....."“The key to change is to let go of fear.”...“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”, and so on. (click here to read more quotes on CHANGE) But we'll keep our message simple to you; Make a positive change this year, and let it begin with you.

What Can You Do? Keep it simple and don't set yourself up for failure. Here are some simple ideas to help you make 2010 an amazingly positive year for yourself and those around you.

1) Consciously smile....to your loved ones, your co-workers....even to strangers.

2) Treat yourself to some time on your own doing something - anything - you enjoy, whether it's a round of solitaire on the computer, a chapter of a good book, a walk around the block or a 15-minute getaway on the Food Network.

3) Listen to a couple of songs that remind you of good times while you go about more mundane tasks such as cleaning the house or changing the litter box. May we recommend Tom Petty's "Learning to Fly", the Bee Gees "Stayin' Alive", or the soundtrack to the TV series "Glee"?

4) Give a sincere compliment to someone you don't know....or better yet, someone you KNOW who really deserves it! Come on, you can do it. Don't be shy!

5) Write a note of heartfelt congratulations, thanks or encouragement to someone you think deserves it. REALLY write it, using your hands and a ball point pen - and then mail it with a stamp! Maybe even put a smiley face sticker on the outside of the envelope! :-)

6) Put on your comfortable, favorite old pants and make a plan to sit around with some comfortable, favorite old friends....and just talk. Why not plan a "2010 Brainstorming Party" and discuss how you can make 2010 a better year?

7) Be more conscious of the calories you consume each day - but don't be obsessive. Try to cut out only 100 calories a day by simply making ONE decision not to eat a certain food - or drink that Latte. It'll add up to a BIG weight loss!

8) Drink more water. Simple - yet effective to your health and complexion!

9) Prioritize sleep. It's when your body heals itself.

10) Stop and think before you react to situations that might induce stress. Consider the big picture - and chose to stay positive. BREATHE deeply.

So embrace the idea of "Positive Change" in the New Year - and focus on something you can control - Yourself. Not others....not the system....not Wall Street....

YOU.

If each one of us thought about making a positive impact - even the smallest imjpact - each day, think about the possibilities!?!?!

The past is history. The future is a mystery. Today is a gift - that's why they call it the "present". Make it better.....for YOU.
